Spend A Day In Aberdeen
Just 25 minutes west from the Elma Container Cabin is the bustling city of Aberdeen. Aberdeen has rich history of ship building, saw mills, grittiness and seedy characters. Fortunately, the city has matured into the gateway to Grays Harbor with shops, restaurants, museums and plenty to do for singles, couples and families.
Scoops Ice Cream and Coffee
Scoops is a family friendly coffee and ice cream cafe housed in a vintage gas station. With a large menu of hot and cold drinks, even the coffee connoisseur will feel at home. If coffee isn’t your taste, peruse the 40 flavors of ice cream just waiting to be enjoyed.
While sipping your coffee, walk along the water front and enjoy the view. You may see several tall ships, like the Lady Washington, which calls Grays Harbor home. The Lady Washington is a replica of a ship originally built in the 1800s. The current Lady was launched in 1989 and is operated by volunteers from the Grays Harbor Historic Seaport Authority. If you’re unsure why the Lady Washington looks familiar, it might be because she has been featured in several movies, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Kurt Cobain Memorial Park
Kurt Cobain, lead singer of the grunge band Nirvana and grunge cultural icon, was born in Aberdeen and formed his first band in Aberdeen. This small park was created several years after his death and was only officially declared the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park by the city in 2015. Nirvana and grunge music fans with find this park a “must see.”

Just 15 minutes south west of the city proper is the family-owned Westport Winery and Garden Resort. This destination winery is a unique experience for visitors of all ages. Visitors can enjoy wine tasting, a bakery and cafe for lunch, winery tours, beautiful gardens, a gift shop, and a variety of yard games including a maze and wizard’s chess. There is even an off leash dog park! The winery produces over 30 wines and ciders, which have won over 300 awards. The winery is open daily from 11-7 pm with brunch on Sundays and periodic special events.
In the evening, stop by the Driftwood Players and enjoy community theater that has a 60 year tradition! The Driftwood Players perform in a former church that was originally built in 1926. After an extensive remodel, the church was converted to the beautiful and vibrant theater that stands today. The Players have a full season, there is sure to be a great show to catch while you visit.
